District of Innovation

The mission of the El Campo Independent School District is to maximize opportunities for all ECISD students by providing the educational opportunity and motivation to learn the skills necessary for academic and vocational excellence.
House Bill 1842, Section 4 passed in the 84th Texas Legislative Session, provides an opportunity for Texas public school districts to be designated as Districts of Innovation, thereby allowing them the flexibility to be exempt from or modify state requirements at the local level to better meet the needs of the students and personalize learning.
Districts of Innovation provide opportunities for:
  • Greater local control;
  • Increased flexibility governing education programming; and
  • Empowerment to innovate and think differently.
Districts are not exempt from statutes related to curriculum, graduation requirements, nor academic and financial accountability.
This innovation plan was developed by a diverse group of (33) members, including teachers, administrators, parents, school trustees, district staff, and community members representing all ECISD campuses and stakeholders.  The District of Innovation DOI Committee was focused on exploring innovation that would support our district’s goals and mission.
The proposed El Campo ISD District of Innovation Plan was posted on October 23, 2017, and made available for public viewing.  It remained posted there for more than 30 days and was approved by the Board of Trustees on December 12, 2017.  We encouraged all district stakeholders to review it and share any comments or feedback to Dolores A. Trevino, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction dtrevino@ecisd.org
